Our tattered flag design is modeled after the flag that flew on the USS Bradford from April 12th 1945 – May 12th 1945. For the 30 days it was flown in Okinawa it was not hauled down or replaced. The flag was donated to the USS Alabama by the crew of the USS Bradford and is displayed on the USS Alabama today. The major change that was made was adding the 2 additional stars that represent Hawaii and Alaska becoming states to make it a complete 50 star flag as those were not states at that time  the flag flew in 1945.
